Boymom: Old Photo Day!
I found it! That one box that's been teasing me as to its location. Utterly packed to the brim with photos, newspaper clippings, macaroni art projects, homemade cards to one another, and even a few envelopes preserving locks of hair! Housework came to a halt as I diligently began sorting. "Ah photos! Real life, print them out, hold them in your hand, only to stuff them in a box photos!" But I just couldn't take this trip down memory lane alone......I needed to call upon my troops! Boy were they in for one very sappy and emotional roller coaster ride with their momma this afternoon!
To my surprise the boys were actually quite excited about this treasure of a box! Smiling faces and grabby paws joined in as we picked through what felt like a time machine! It was as if the world had stopped for a moment, allowing us to reminisce. One of the first pictures pulled from the heap was a nice shot of them trapped behind a baby gate that provided host for a sign declaring......"FREE BABIES"! This picture had to of been taken midsummer evening just before bath time for each kiddo had been half nakey, popsicle stained, and defined filthy!
"Mom mom mom, look at this one!" Ah..... one of my favorites I thought. Though my boys thought of this shot as confusingly cruel.....I still to this day go on to think of it as brilliant! Two of my boys had been at each other's last wit that day. There had been so much hair pulling, toy breaking, name calling, etc that I had enough! Nearly an hour left to go before their father returned home and the usual "time out" wasn't doing it today. I tried to remind the two rascals that they were brothers and they truly loved one another, but without missing a single beat..... one of them began to calmly explain to me that he can no longer live with the biggest doodie head that he's ever seen! "Okay then......" I thought. The picture was worth a thousand words for I had found one of their fathers largest long sleeve t-shirts, stuffed the two of them into it with both of their little heads sticking out, but tied the long sleeves around them and behind their backs....creating what I called..... "A love and kindness cocoon."
Time was flying by as we continued to comb through all of these memories. And I found myself in complete 'awe' of how proud I am that my mini man clan are growing up to be fine human beings. The boys began making a pile of photos that were taken of just myself. Some dating back to the beauty pageant days, dressing up for date night with daddy, some old glamor shots (y'all remember those!), and just random shots of their momma looking rather purdy! Each boy began to take a couple of those photos for themselves to have, which I didn't mind whatsoever and felt rather proud that they wanted them in the first place! "Gosh mommy you looked so pretty!" And "Dang momma you got it goin on here!" Oh I felt absolutely great about myself for a moment, but that was until....... there it was at the very bottom of the box where I tried very hard to tuck it away...... 'that one picture'. Lady readers you know which one I'm talking about.
Each one of my boys burst out in sheer gut laughter, seemingly appalled by what they were seeing! From head to toe there I was a complete train wreck! My hair tied up in a three day old house wife bun, cavewoman like eyebrows, one of their used t-shirts, and a pair of their fathers sweatpants that were 2-3 sizes to big for me in the first place! And it took us a few minutes to realize that the slippers on my feet were actually little worn out lamas! Hell it looked like even the lamas were wanting to run away from this look! My son held the picture in his hand and asked....."What happened here momma?!" I replied in the sweetest voice......"I had children baby!"
